Coach Found – Villa Park High School Girls Varsity Volleyball – CIF SS 1A/1AA

VPHS found a coach. Tstreet’s Megan Spurgin answered the call. Coach Spurgin and crew made their 2014 debut yesterday at the Lakewood Molten Classic; a tournament quickly gaining a reputation as a local Durango Las Vegas; widely acknowledged the nation’s premier early season high school volleyball tournament. Coach Spurgin and crew went 2-0 yesterday. In the second match VPHS defeated South Torrance 3-1, a team many considered a tournament Top 8 finalist contender. To me, Coach Spurgin looked like she was born for the role. VPHS has a rigorous league schedule – one of the most rigorous in the CIF SS. VPHS is also participating in the nation’s top early season tournaments including the Lakewood Molten Classic, Durango Las Vegas and Dave Mohs.

What precipitated Coach Spurgin’s VPHS arrival? Kevin Hitt stepped down as girls volleyball coach at Villa Park to accept the 1st assistant coach job at CS Fullerton. In his second year at Villa Park, Hitt led the CIF Division 1AA Spartans to a 24-5 season and their first ever league championship title and best record in school history (50 years), with only one roster senior. Everyone’s returning plus there’s important new talent. We’re going to love watching them play.
