Silver. Silver is a lustrous transitional metal. Silver possesses the highest thermal and electrical conductivity of any element. And silver is a lot like this team. Resplendent, transitional as players will build on this experience. Positive. Their play was electric; channeling intensity, passion, composure, poise. No, “maturity” is the best word. Watching was amazing. It was obvious they’d left all they had on the court. Every game. And with a match record of 7-2 and a games record of 23-9 they played a lot. In every match courts radiated with their all consuming passion. And isn’t that where you get the most satisfaction? Not to win or lose but to play with those of a like mind; all consuming passion as the most common denominator? To play volleyball with those who share the same “all consuming passion.” Hats off to USAV, SCVA High Performance, SCVA, Coach Andrea Buckner and Coach Jeff Sherman. Thank you Paula Weishoff and Valerie Cowan, the clubs and club owners, Ann Davenport and Shannon Davenport and the entire SCVA staff for running an incredible organization in which we all thrive and anyone I’ve missed for creating the unique and highly successful experience. For others to not try out; for others to not know about the SCVA HP experience would be a shame.
Thank you for your talent and exceptional displays of leadership by example throughout the tournament.

You came to the tournament with a wealth of experience; each individual and unique. You will leave with more. And though every one of you are completely different you played throughout as if you are one. A coach’s dream. You represent SCVA and Southern California volleyball exceptionally well. What started as practice just two short weeks ago materialized into a the Girl’s National Division silver medal for SCVA’s High Performance Select team today, Saturday July 27 at the 2013 USAV High Performance Championships. There is no silver in Florida. It can’t be mined. And a medal can’t be bought. It has to be earned: through effort and through the changes you’ve made daily to make you a better you. That takes Leadership. Motivation. Conviction. Those are more valuable talents. Finding silver in Ft. Lauderdale this week was a rare experience for a great group of girls who will now know each other every time they journey and meet across the USAV landscape. The “SoCal 11” are now sisters. Way to go! Well done! Successful journey!
