As time goes by I like the girls that play at Ocean Beach more and more. Everyone’s in good spirits, the games are competitive and you go home looking forward to your return. It’s just a short drive from and a nice day away from OC and LA, the parents are great, CBVA Ocean Beach Director Jim Tuyay is always enthusiastic and the bevy of local club coaches do an exceptional pre-tournament PR pitch and rules recap. Sunday May 19 there were 48 14s-teams and just like Louie in Bogart’s movie Casablanca the usual suspects found themselves rounded up in championship play with gold medal honors going to WAVE 14-Brennan’s OH Savvy Simo and libero Madi Fields; silver to Tstreet’s 13-Curtis’ Garbriella Bellizzi and 14-Mike’s Madison Pope (aka “The Pope”) and bronze to Tstreet 14-Mike’s OH Emma Calle and libero Annasophia Bellizzi.
Do not “return to sender,” – Emma Calle OH Tstreet 14-Mike
WAVE 14-Brennan’s Savvy Simo (r) and Madi Fields (c): Indoor club fees $5,000; a trip to Dallas and the 2013 USAV Girl’s Junior National Championships $2,500. A coach at the beach: Priceless!
Point of no return. Annasophia Bellizzi (libero Tstreet 14-Mike) serves an ace. Partners with Tstreet 14-Mike’s OH Emma Calle.
If you’ve got enough energy to walk off a court did you really give the match everything you’ve got? Tstreet 13-Curtis’ Gabriella Bellizzi thinks that’s the way you believe, breathe and battle. Partners with Maddy Pope OH/DS (Tstreet 14-Mike).
